Coeur d’Alene Firefighters Local 710 represents over 70 professional firefighters serving the City of Coeur d’Alene. Our membership includes firefighters, engineers, captains, battalion chiefs, and division chiefs, all cross-trained to provide emergency medical care at the EMT, AEMT, or paramedic level. Our members provide fire suppression, advanced life support, technical rescue, and all-hazards emergency response to residents and visitors throughout the area.
Chartered on February 18, 1942, Local 710 has represented Coeur d’Alene firefighters for more than 80 years. In 2007, the International Association of Fire Fighters officially restored the original Local 710 designation, reaffirming the local’s longstanding identity and history.
Our members staff a full-service department operating out of four stations, maintaining a minimum daily staffing of 21 personnel, and responding to over 10,000 calls for service annually. The department holds a Class 3 fire protection rating from the Idaho Survey and Rating Bureau, reflecting a high level of service within the state.
Operations are supported by a diverse fleet that includes three engine companies, a ladder company, a heavy rescue, a backcountry rescue unit, two brush trucks, a fireboat, three ambulances, and additional specialized apparatus. Local 710 firefighters are also part of one of Idaho’s designated Technical Response Teams, providing specialized rescue capabilities across the region.
Local 710 honors the sacrifice of our members who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Firefighter Dick Gaines, who died in a structure fire in 1951, and Battalion Chief John Morrison, who was shot and killed in 2025 while operating at the scene of an intentionally set wildfire. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
In addition to emergency response, Local 710 is actively engaged in the community through programs such as Santa Photos and Mobile Santa, the Muscular Dystrophy Association Fill the Boot campaign, and the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb among others.
Local 710 is committed to professionalism, safety, and service. We work for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the staffing, training, and equipment our members need to do the job right. This commitment ensures our ability to serve our community at our best.
